In 2023, our debate team were discussing ongoing issues with homeless encampments in Mass. and Cass. News broke out that many refugees are stuck at Logan Airport unable to find accommodations upon arriving in Boston. Eager to do something to help, we collected tents and sleeping bags (after seeing the photos of sleeping bags in the airport).
Arriving at the airport, we got shut out by the securities, who explained that they don’t accepting such donations and asked me to find local shelters instead.
Stumped, I ended up visiting multiple shelters before eventually found the CASPAR center to donate the sleeping bags. Nevertheless, I learned that camping has been banned in Boston, and thus no one would be able to accept tents donation. The tents are still lying in my garage.

After the experience, I learned that to serve others in a meaningful way, I have to first learn what their real needs are. The shelter visits have inspired me to learn more about the homeless population. Thus, I started Home for Every Heart.
